Post-16 Transport

Appleby Grammar School, Post-16 Transport Policy Statement.
Appleby Grammar School operates a Post-16 Spare Seat Scheme in conjunction with Westmorland & Furness Council’s Integrated Home to School Transport Team. Free school transport is only provided until a student completes Year 11, but for students who reside within the catchment area, the Westmorland & Furness Council Transport Services Team operate a Post 16 Spare Seat Scheme. This means Sixth Form students can buy bus passes for the spare seats (where they are available) on school transport. This enables students to travel in the morning and afternoon at the standard times, on contracted vehicles.
To obtain a bus pass parents/carers must submit a Post 16 Spare Seat application directly to the Council, please contact School who will provide the application form. The cost of the spare seat passes is determined by Westmorland and Furness Council.

Available seats will then be allocated by the council and they will invoice parent/ carers directly for payment. As soon as the Council has received payment, they will issue a travel pass directly to the home address stated on the application. Parents are responsible for contacting the Council’s integrated Home to School Transport Team to advise if a seat is no longer required so that the space can be offered to someone else on the waiting list and a refund can be processed. Please consider alternative transport arrangements in the event that a spare seat is not available.
For families on low income, Westmorland & Furness Council offer financial support to cover transport costs via their low-income bursary application process. If families are outside of these criteria but still require financial assistance, then students may apply to the school’s 16-19 Bursary Fund, details of this are available on the school website.
