Mathematics
We offer a variety of activities throughout the year. Regular curriculum days have given students the chance to spend time on practical maths activities and challenges designed to stretch team working and problem solving skills. Year 7 students are involved with the Maths Science trail often working and helping year 5 Primary pupils. Gifted and most able students can participate in the Leeds University UKMT Maths challenge and year 9 and year 11 students are given the chance to attend Maths Master classes at the University of Cumbria. We offer Maths at AS and A2 level. These are popular choices and students often go on to study Mathematics related degrees at university.
Setting
The Maths staff use the Key Stage 2 SAT and Teacher assessments from Feeder Primary schools to place pupils in suitable ability sets. In conjunction with this we also assess pupils using our own mathematics tests and regularly review pupil progress. We aim to keep track of each pupil's progress and keep you informed.
Resources
Each of the specialist maths classrooms are equipped with Smart Boards, text books which follow the National Curriculum and practical maths equipment such as mini whiteboards. Our IT equipment includes 'activote pods' and use of the specialist IT facilities.
