Accelerated Reader

Thank you for supporting your child’s independent reading.

STAR testing and the Accelerated Reader programme

The Accelerated Reader programme helps students to find books that are targeted at their reading ability whilst also providing an appropriate level of challenge to encourage further progress. Students have access to a variety of books in the AGS library but they may wish to read other books which are not in our library stock. There is an online tool available to guide you to suitable titles.

Visit: www.arbookfind.co.uk

There are various options for searching. If you wish to check the book level of a specific title then a ‘quick search’ will be appropriate.

If however, you wish to see a range of suitable titles then the ‘advanced search’ would be more appropriate. Select the advanced search tab and then adjust the ‘interest level’ drop-down menu. Type in your son/daughter’s ATOS book level range. This will be two numbers, for example: 3.6 through 5.2. Your son/daughter should have this information as this is what they use to select books in the school library.

Cumbria Libraries Service offers access to Borrowbox

Hello, Reader!

While you’re away from school, you may be finding it hard to get hold of new books to read without access to the school library stock. If this is a problem for you, we have the following suggestion which might help you out and keep you reading.

Cumbria Libraries Service offers access to Borrowbox – a completely free online service. You can download and borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks by using the website, or, you can download and use the BorrowBox app which has a dedicated eAudiobook player and eBook reader, allowing you to search, browse, borrow, read and play both formats.

You need to be a member of Cumbria Libraries to access Borrowbox, but you don’t even have to visit a Library to join! You can do it online by following this link: https://cumbria.gov.uk/libraries/services/membserv.asp

Once you have joined the library and they have let you know your library Identification number and PIN, you will be able to log on to Borrowbox. All the information you need is here:  https://cumbria.gov.uk/libraries/online_resources/ebooks_audiobooks.asp?cookies=disable

We hope this information will be helpful to you. Why not mention it to everyone in your household? Reading is a great way to escape into another world during these troubled times and you can never be bored if you’re a reader! Let your English teacher know what you think of Borrowbox and what you’re reading.

With best wishes from the English Department.
