Art

Art is popular subject at Appleby Grammar School, allowing students to express their creativity and design skills. Students are guided through a range of exciting products developing independence as they progress through the school. As well as building a good underlying knowledge of techniques and materials students are encouraged to experiment and discover new possibilities.

In Art, students work with traditional and new media, developing confidence, competence, imagination and creativity. They learn to appreciate and value images across times and cultures, and to understand the contexts in which they were made. In Art, students reflect critically on their own and other people's work, judging quality, value and meaning. They learn to think and act as artists, craftspeople and designers, working creatively and intelligently. They develop an appreciation of art, craft and design, and its role in the creative and cultural industries that enrich their lives as well as considering its application in today’s modern world.
